Qigong in Lewes | Movement for Health
In Chinese medicine, stillness and movement are not opposites but parts of the same unified whole. Acupuncture allows the body time to settle and respond, while Qigong uses gentle movement, breathing and awareness to support health and wellbeing.
For people receiving acupuncture for stress, fatigue, pain or disturbed sleep, Qigong can also provide a practical way of continuing that process between treatments.
What is Qigong?
Qigong is a traditional Chinese practice combining gentle movement, breathing, posture and focused awareness. It has been practised for centuries as a way of cultivating health and developing greater awareness of the body.
Movements are generally slow and controlled and can be adapted to different levels of mobility and experience. Rather than focusing on strength or performance, practice develops relaxation, coordination, balance and awareness of how the body moves.
Qigong and Chinese Medicine
Qigong shares many of the principles that inform Chinese medicine: regulating movement and circulation, balancing activity with rest, and developing greater awareness of physical and emotional patterns.
In my acupuncture practice, I may suggest simple movement or Qigong exercises where they are appropriate. For some people this provides a useful way of supporting what we are working with during treatment and taking a more active role in their own wellbeing.
Qigong Classes in Lewes
I also teach Qigong and T’ai Chi in Lewes, separately from my acupuncture clinic. Classes explore relaxation, posture, breathing, coordination and the principles of traditional internal movement.
